How To Care For Your Tree

How to care for your Christmas Tree

Caring for a live Christmas tree is mostly about keeping it hydrated through the season. Here are the key steps:

Step One

If the base of the tree is dry, cut about 1cm off the bottom of the trunk before placing it in water. This reopens the pores so it can drink.

Step two

Use a sturdy stand that holds plenty of water.

Place the tree away from direct heat sources (heaters, fireplaces and sunny windows). Heat will dry your tree out quickly.

Step three

Get the trunk into water within an hour of making the fresh cut.

Check daily: A typical tree can drink up to 4 litres of water in the first 24 hours and 1-2 litres every day after that.

Never let it dry out: If the water drops below the base, the trunk can seal up, making it unable to drink.
